EcoNews Report #251 Pre-Election Jitters with Rep. Jared Huffman
Congressman Huffman is back on the show. With a major election in just a few days, what is the Congressman up to? When he isn’t calling voters in swing states — has anyone in Nevada received a call from a “Jared from California”? — he is sponsoring new legislation to protect birds and whales. The Congressman also has new bipartisan fire resiliency legislation that seeks to make our state safer without sacrificing environmental protections along the way. Join Environmental Protection Information Center Executive Director Tom Wheeler and Friends of the Eel River Conservation Director Scott Greacen on the EcoNews Report this week as they check in with Rep. Jared Huffman.
By producing more mature forests where they exist and defining interfaces within variable age class, stand conditions, stand or contiguous vegetative cover, then analyzing those structural and individual tree characteristics (thickness of tree bark, number of stems which can be assessed for some stand improvement, optimizing future stand health). Proactive stand improvements can integrate forestry actions that are part of an overall economy; whereby, carbon sequestration is optimized, via carbon credits, site maturity can be improved by reducing potential fire threats, increasing stand health, by variables like reducing fuel ladders, removing trees that may compromise forest health, benefitting spacing and yet providing dynamic factors like snags or downed woody debris to not be overlooked. There are highly practical adjustments which can optimize future conditions when stand improvements can be utilized. FIre resilience is a serious commitment that benefits forest stands when sound decisions and judgement improve site conditions for maturing stands.
